Cleaning Tip #2

At the marina, I often see other boaters cleaning their boats with household cleaning products, mostly dish soap such as Dawn or Ajax.  Don't get me wrong, these are great products, just not for the hull of a boat.

As advertised, dish soaps are very good at removing grease, this is why I like to use them in the bilge with a few gallons of water.  For a few months, I could eat off of my bilge (NEVER would I advise doing that!!!!).

Since they are so good at removing grease, they will also remove grease like chemicals.  WAX is a grease like chemical.  Therefore, when washing your boat with dish soap, you are most likely removing the coat of wax that is on the gel coat.

Just some food for thought and something that I found pretty interesting.

Happy Boating!!!!!!

P.S. My favorite boat soap is Meguiar's. In fact, I like almost everything Meguiar's.  Click on the picture to be directed to Meguiar's boat products page.
