Why Power Loading Can Be Illegal

Power loading is simply the act of using your engine to push your boat onto the trailer.  Many boaters choose this method of loading their boats because it is faster and can be helpful in situations where the wind is not in your favor.  Though it is a very good method, it is also illegal in some places.

When power loading and depending on the trailer, it can sometimes take up to 3000 or 4000 RPMs to push the boat onto the trailer.  Sometimes when using so much power and pushing all of that thrust into one place, it can push all of the dirt that is under the ramp up into a pile, leaving a sort of sand bar near the ramp that other boats can run onto.  I've made this diagram below to illustrate this phenomena.
