Driving Your Twin Engine Boat Without a Bowthruster

Let's face it, just like Murphy's Law says, if something can go wrong, it will.  In most cases on what I like to call "consumer" level boats, bow thrusters are powered by small electric motors.  I have never seen a case where water and electricity will make a good mix, especially in the case of salt water and electricity.  With the salty air constantly hanging around the boat, electrical connections are bound to fail a some point, whether it is something as simple as a light bulb or as technical as a bow thruster, something is bound to happen.

I have seen many boaters that rely almost 100% on the fact that everytime they hit their thurster control, it will come on, in many cases, this is the only way that these boaters know how to drive their boats. Lets be "real" here, a bow or stern thruster is a great asset to have, but it is very important to learn how to drive your boat with just the throttles and the wheel. Like I talked about in an earlier post, you can very simply walk a boat sideways with the engines just as you would with thrusters.
