Five things that you can do today to keep your boat from catching on fire:
- Make sure that every piece of electrical equipment aboard has a proper fuse of an appropriate size
- Check if anything is wired directly to the batteries and, if it is, add a proper fuse or circuit breaker
- Change your impeller if you have not done so in the past two years
- Take the electric space heater off your boat
- Check for burn marks on the shore power plug that indicate arcing and replace your shore power cord and/or your shore power inlet if you find any
