Stabilizing Fuel for the Winter

Its getting to be that time of year again, the one that all boaters dread, winter.  One of the steps to ensure that your boat is ready to go when you are next season is to protect the fuel during the off season.  Adding a fuel stabilizer to the fuel will help stop phase separation of the fuel and lessen the effects of any water that could form in the tank from condensation.  Starting now, you should add fuel stabilizer to the tank every time you get fuel.  The fuel stabilizer cannot fully do its job if its is just poured into the tank and left. For best results, you should add some to a full tank then drive then run the engine for a few minutes, spending time on the water if possible.  The movement of the boat will mix the additive into the fuel and the running of the engine will get the additive through the fuel lines.

Check the instructions on your additive.  In most cases, a little extra cannot hurt and over treatment will have no harmful effects.
