Walking A Twin Engine Without Thrusters

Did you know that you can walk twin engine boat sideways without bow thrusters?  In fact, many professional captains don't like to use bow thrusters.  According to some, a bow thruster can allow the boat to gain too much speed and become uncontrollable, I never thought about it, but it does make sense when you think about it.

Now, walking a twin engine boat sideways using this method will not make the boat move directly side to side, there will also be some forward motion along with the sideways motion.

When using this method it is important to add power proportionally.  If you begin to add too much in one direction the boat will begin to spin rather than walk.



To move to PORT

• Wheel hard to STARBOARD
• Starboard engine FORWARD
• Port engine REVERSE

To move to STARBOARD

• Wheel hard to PORT
• Starboard engine REVERSE
• Port engine FORWARD
